Charity softball game this Sunday

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Thunder will face-off with the media this Sunday in the first annual Homeruns for Happiness softball game.

Current and former Thunder players will participate in the game, which will take place at 2:00 p.m. at the Westside Athletic Field, located at 571 N.W. McLean Boulevard. Admission is $10 per person and all proceeds will benefit Wichita families in need of assistance towards adoptions. Thunder Equipment Manager Frank "Rizzo" Jury and his wife Kim are in the process of adopting a baby boy from Kazakhstan. More information can be found at www.freewebs.com/juryfamily/index.htm.

The Thunder team will feature several former Thunder greats such as Bobby Desjardins, Rob Weingartner and Tom Roulston, all members of Thunder CHL Champion Teams from 1994 and 1995, as well as Sean O'Reilly, Thomas Migdal, Brad Link and Mark Bourgeois. They will be joined by current players Jason Duda, Travis Clayton, Ryan McLean, Daniel Tetrault, Joe Blaznek and Thunder head coach Mark French.

The media team, captained by Jeffrey Parson from the Wichita Eagle will also feature Alan Shope from KAKE TV-10 sports, anchorman Paul Pettite from KSN TV-3, Bryan Holmgren from KWCH TV-12 sports, KFDI FM 101.3 DJ Tony Brueski and Nick Steffen from KGSO Sports Radio AM 1410, among others.

Fans can meet and take pictures with the Thunder beginning at 1:15 p.m. The game worn jerseys will be auctioned off following the game and a post game party will be held at the Four Points Sheraton, located at 5805 W. Kellogg.

The Thunder also announced today that tryouts for the first ever Lampton Welding Supply Lightning Dance team will be held on Friday and Saturday, August 25th and 26th, also at the Four Points Sheraton, the official host hotel of the Wichita Thunder. The Lampton Lightning will perform on the ice at most Thunder home games, assist with Thunder game day promotions and help promote the Thunder in the Wichita community.

The 2006 CHL Most Improved Franchise, the Thunder will begin their 15th CHL season with a pair of home games on Friday, October 20th versus the Tulsa Oilers and Saturday, October 21st versus the Oklahoma City Blazers. The Thunder finished second in the CHL and seventh among 54 "AA" hockey teams for attendance last season, averaging 5,719 fans per game, and expect to surpass that total in 2006-07.
