Copperheads Host Firecats

April 5, 2008 - arenafootball2 (af2) - Texas Copperheads News Release

Houston, Texas - The Texas Copperheads will host the Florida Firecats at the Richard E. Berry Center in Northwest Houston on Sunday April 6, 2008 at 3pm CST.

Last week the Copperheads dropped their home opener against the Rio Grande Valley Dorados in front of 3337 rowdy fans at the Berry Center. This will be the Firecats' 2008 season opener as they were idle in week 1 of af2 play.

Sunday's game will mark the second all time meeting between the two squads as well as the second consecutive season they will meet at the Berry Center on April 6. On April 6, 2007, returning Firecats QB Chris Wallace would pass for 258 yards and 5 TDs as Florida spoiled Texas' af2 debut with a 54-13 victory.

While the Copperheads would only score 13 points in last season's opener, the 2008 Texas offense appears to be much improved. One week in to the af2 season the Copperheads offense ranks 5th in passing and 6th overall. Texas QB Rudy Carlton ranks 3rd in af2 passing yardage. Carlton's week one "go to" receiver Shaun Rochon leads the af2 in catches and is 4th in receiving yardage. Last week against Rio Grande Valley, Carlton threw for 286 yards and five touchdowns. Rochon would catch 13 of Carlton's passes for 141 yards and three scores.
