Dusters win over Coyotes
AMARILLO- The Amarillo Dusters hosted the Central Valley Coyotes on Saturday, April 1st. The Dusters won their first game of the season.
The Coyotes and the Dusters each scored once in the first quarter. The Coyotes struck first, WR Sean Finnerty caught a 17 yard pass from QB Joe Ayoob. The Dusters answered with a 33 yard pass from QB Julian Reese to WR Craig Fulton, Jr.
The second quarter brought a back and forth battle of scoring. Central Valley scored five times, and each time the Dusters came back with their own score. The Coyotes led the ballgame going into halftime.
The Dusters began the second half with a touchdown run by Donte Newsome. The Dusters defense stood strong against the Central Valley offense and held the Coyotes on a fourth down to get the ball back. Dusters WR Jim Lukowiak caught a 12 yd pass from Reese to put the Dusters in the lead. Another touchdown pass from Coyotes QB Joe Ayoob put the Coyotes back on top; however, Coyotes kick Michael Bjork had a difficult time with extra points.
The fourth quarter brought more back and forth scoring from the two teams. Central Valley's Ayoob connected with Tonae Martin for two touchdowns. Martin played football at West Texas A&M University. Amarillo came out on top in the fourth with three touchdowns and 2-point conversion after a fumble on the snap. Dusters kicker Jacob Felton connected with Wallace House for those two points.
Schutt Offensive Player of the Game, Jim Lukowiak of Amarillo caught 8 passes for 84 yards and 4 touchdowns. ADT Defensive Player of the Game went to Amarillo's Terick Thomas who broke up two key passes and had one interception. The Cutters Catch of the Game went to Wallace House of Amarillo, with his catch from Jacob Felton for the 2-point conversion.
Amarillo's Craig Fulton was awarded the U.S. Ironman of the Game for his effort. Fulton had 8 catches from 102 yards and 2 touchdowns.
The Dusters will host the Austin Wranglers next Saturday, April 12. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. Tickets are on sale at the Dusters Box Office, the Amarillo Civic Center Box Office, and any panhandle tickets outlet.
