Connecticut Crush Hit Rochester Hard

NEWINGTON, CT – April 19, 2003 – The Connecticut Crush Women's Professional Football Team (2-0) scored early and often this past Saturday, April 19th, posting a convincing 49-6 victory on the road versus the Rochester Raptors.

Quarterback Donna Bruce #9 opened the game with a 10-yard touchdown pass to Wide Receiver Shannon Fredrickson #84 on the Crush's first possession. Good field position and near perfect offensive execution allowed the Crush to build upon its lead with a 15-yard TD pass to Kim Palmer #13 followed by a 4-yard TD run to first year player Bridget Nordstrom #25 in the closing seconds of the first quarter. In the second quarter, #9 Bruce twice connected with #13 Palmer for a 42 and 60-yard TD pass. The Crush led 35-0 at the half.

The Crush established their running game in the second half with an 18 yard TD run by Nicole Paradis #31 and a 42 yard TD run by April Meyer #20. The fierce Crush defense held the Raptors in their own territory for most of the game. Defensive End Stefanie Lake #96 led the Crush defense for the second week in a row with 14 tackles. Linebackers Tracey Waggoner #46 and Kelly Kraynak #44 contributed with 7 tackles apiece. The Raptors only scoring drive came at just over five minutes in the fourth quarter, following a pass interference call on the Crush. Rochester attempted another touchdown pass in the closing minute of the game but an interception by Cornerback Jody Higgins #21 regained possession for the Crush who chose to down the ball in the final seconds.

The Crush have a break this weekend but look forward to hosting the Rochester Raptors next week in the team's home opener Saturday, May 3rd at Veteran's Memorial Stadium in New Britain, adjacent to the home of the New Britain Rock Cats.
