The National Women's Football Association is pleased to announce that one of the players in the league is gearing up for a Heavyweight Boxing Fight.
Carley Pesente, a linebacker for the Connecticut Crush, will be fighting Jacquie Lyde Frazier, the daughter of top boxing icon, Smokin Joe Frazier in an 8 round heavyweight showdown. The match will be held in Philadelphia, PA on August 31, 2004, at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. Pesente when she's not on the field bringing down opponents has a pro boxing record of 12-9-1 and has been rated as high as 3rd in the world. "This is great for our league and only goes to show how much real talent we have both on the field and off," states league VP, Debby Lening.
Pesente is currently ranked 6th in the World by the IFBA and 11th by the WBAN, Frazier is ranked but as a super middleweight, 2nd and 1st respectively. This fight will be in the heavyweight division and will not be for any belts. Pesente had this to say about her upcoming bout, "This is a big fight for my career. I have fought two opponents ranked number 1 in the world (Vonda Ward and Keisha Snow ), early in my career and lost both, but if I can beat Frazier this will give me instant recognition in the fight game. Even if I lose to her, which is a real possibility because the fight is in her hometown, if I put on a good showing people will remember that, and hopefully that will propel me to even higher heights in the boxing world."
