
Condors Weekly: Pacific Division Race Heating Up

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors earned a split in a weekend series with Stockton, but were downed on Sunday in Ontario. The first place Condors hold a 28-18-4-1 record, with 61 points in the standings, and a five point lead in the Pacific Division over the Stockton Thunder. The Condors host a pair of games this weekend against the Victoria Salmon Kings, and also travel back to Ontario on Sunday.

CONDORS 5 vs. Stockton 4 (SO)
After leading 3-1 in the second period, Bakersfield fell behind the visiting Thunder in the third frame. D Chris Allen, however, forced overtime with an extra-attacker goal with just 33 seconds left in regulation, and the Condors prevailed in the shootout. G Timo Pielmeier was perfect in the shootout, and F Matt Pope had 2g-1a in regulation to highlight the Condors win.
Saturday, Feb. 20
Stockton 2 vs. CONDORS 0
G Andrew Perugini stopped 45 shots, while Stockton received goals from RW James Bates and C Oren Eizenman to blank the Condors Saturday night. The loss halted the Condors two-game home win streak, and also stopped their four-game winning streak against Stockton.
Sunday, Feb. 21
ONTARIO 6 vs. Condors 4
The Ontario Reign scored with just under three minutes remaining in regulation to snap a 4-4 tie, and skated away with a 6-4 victory over the Condors on Sunday. RW Nick Kemp scored late in the second period to tie the game up, while F Andrew Ianiero, C Adam Naglich and F Mathieu Aubin also lit the lamp for Bakersfield.
PLAYER AND TEAM NOTES:
* The Condors are 2nd in the ECHL in shorthanded goals, with 11 on the season. The Bakersfield record is 21 SHG, set in 1996-97, while the Condors record is 20, in 2006-07.
* Five players are tied for the league rookie lead with three shorthanded points, three of which play (or played) for the Condors: RW Dan Sexton, RW Nick Kemp and C Adam Naglich.
* G Timo Pielmeier has held his opponents without a goal in four of the five shootouts he has been in.
* The Condors have only two games remaining against both Ontario and Stockton this season, and five games remaining against Las Vegas. Of their final 21 games, 12 are against West Division opponents.
* Sunday's loss was the first of the season for the Condors when leading after the first period.
* Bakersfield has scored the first goal in three of their last four games, after going 12 straight contests surrendering the opening tally.
* D Eric Regan (13 goals - 7th) and D Sasha Pokulok (11 goals - t-9th) have both already reached the Condors Top 10 in career goals for blueliners. Regan's total is tied for the 2nd highest in team history.
ON THE DOCKET:
The Condors host the Victoria Salmon Kings on Friday and Saturday at Rabobank Arena before heading to Ontario on Sunday.
Friday's game features a visit from NFL QB and Condorstown native David Carr, sponsored by Bright House Networks, KERI 1410 AM and Junior Condors. He will sign autographs and pose for pictures throughout the night, and after the game he will speak to fans about his faith and the role it has played in his career successes. On Saturday, the amazing Quick Change returns by popular demand to perform their remarkable rapid clothes-changing act during the intermissions. Quick Change appears courtesy of ABC23 and KERN 1180. Doors open at 6 p.m., the puck drops at 7 p.m. both nights. Sunday's game starts at 5 p.m.
