Kansas City Comets News Release


The Kansas City Comets send four players to the 2003-04 MISL All-Star Game in St. Charles, MO. Jeff Davis will be a member of the USA All-Star Team while Vlatko Andonovski, Dino Delevski and Miodrag Djerisilo will compete for the International All-Star Team. The All-Star Game kicks off at 1:05 p.m. on Sunday, February 29 at Family Arena, the St. Louis Steamers' home arena.

For the first time, MISL fans were given an opportunity to participate in the All-Star process by voting for the All-Star starting lineups. The lineups will be announced on Thursday, February 26, at the MISL All-Star Welcome Reception, to be held at the Ameristar Casino in St. Charles, MO, from 5:30 – 8:00 p.m.

The All-Star Game will be rebroadcast for Comets fans on Metro Sports. Catch the action at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, March 1, at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 4 and at 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 6.

Other All-Star Events:

· Feb. 27 – MasterCard MISL Community Day. A daylong program of visits by MISL All-Star and Legends players to hospitals, schools, and other community facilities throughout the region.

· Feb. 28 – MISL All-Star Family Festival. A full day of activities at The Family Arena, including the Spalding All-Star Youth Skills competition, youth mini-games, Legends practice, All-Star practice, All-Star Player Skills Challenge, and MISL "Autograph Alley."

· Feb. 28 – The Commissioner's Gala: A Celebration of Excellence. A gala charity fund-raiser dinner and silent auction in the Grand Concourse Ballroom of the Renaissance St. Louis Airport Hotel. Funds raised will be shared by the not-for-profit Steamer Soccer Foundation and St. Louis Variety.

· Feb. 29 – 2004 MISL All-Star Game, 1:05 p.m. kickoff at The Family Arena (pregame ceremonies begin at 12:45 p.m.). The world's best professional indoor soccer players take the field in a USA vs. International format.

· Feb. 29 – MISL Legends Game, 4 p.m. at The Family Arena. MISL greats from the past take the field in a Steamers Legends vs. MISL Legends competition.

All-Star Tickets:

Tickets are available for the MISL's All-Star Family Festival, the MISL's daylong program of youth skills competition, open practices for the All-Stars and Legends, autograph/photo sessions and other soccer activities, taking place on Saturday, February 28 at the Family Arena in St. Charles, MO.

Next week:

After the All-Star break, the Comets return to action on Saturday, March 6 in Milwaukee. Kickoff at U.S. Cellular Arena is slated for 4 p.m.

The Comets are 2-2 against the Milwaukee Wave. The Comets handed the Wave its first home loss of the season after the teams' last meeting on February 5. Nate Houser scored the game-winning goal that gave the Comets a 6-5 overtime win. The Comets also won the only meeting in January by a score of 8-6 at Kemper Arena.

Losses came in December (7-4 at Kemper Arena) and in November (15-6 at U.S. Cellular Arena). The teams will meet for the final time on March 12 at Kemper Arena.

THE WEEK THAT WAS:

The Kansas City Comets finished the week with a loss to the St. Louis Steamers and a win against the San Diego Sockers. Going into the All-Star break, the Comets are 12-16, eight games behind the Milwaukee Wave and a half game ahead of the St. Louis Steamers.

ST. LOUIS 5 Kansas City 3
Kansas City and St. Louis were tied 1-1 at halftime, but three Steamer goals in the third quarter proved costly to the Comets. The Comets came within one in the fourth quarter after two goals by Dino Delevski, but Sterling Wescott's goal at 12:38 ended Kansas City's hopes for a rally. Dino Delevski led the Comets offensively with two points. Jeff Davis led both teams with four blocks.

San Diego 5 KANSAS CITY 7
The Comets led 5-3 at halftime, but San Diego tied the game in the third quarter after goals by Nino DaSilva and Sean Bowers. The Comets were shutout in the third quarter but scored two goals in the fourth quarter and regained the lead for good. Dino Delevski and Jamar Beasley led the Comets with three points. Jeff Davis led the defense with five blocks. In his MISL debut in goal, Sanaldo played all 60 minutes and saved 17 of 22 shots faced for his first win.

Three Comets players are among the scoring leaders in the MISL. As of Monday, February 23, Dino Delevski is in third, Miodrag Djerisilo is tied for tenth place, and Jamar Beasley is tied for 17th place.

Sanaldo made his debut in goal Saturday night against the San Diego Sockers. He played all 60 minutes and saved 17 of 22 shots for his first career win in the MISL.
