Kansas City Comets News Release
Kansas City's weekend road games were on opposite ends of the spectrum for the club, which enters the week 3-6. The Comets reached a high after pulling out an exciting 5-4 overtime win Friday night in Monterrey, but the team could not build a winning streak with a 10-4 loss in Dallas on Sunday night. The Comets sit in second place in the MISL's Central Division, one game ahead of the St. Louis Steamers (2-7) and four games behind the Milwaukee Wave (7-2).
On Friday night in Monterrey, the Comets trailed by two goals in the fourth quarter until Anthony Maher and Miodrag Djerisilo scored a goal each to tie the score 3-3. At 11:03 in the fourth quarter, Monterrey's Genoni Martinez put the Fury up again until the closing seconds of the game. With only 18 seconds remaining, Maher scored the equalizer with an assist from Dino Delevski.
In overtime, Kansas City worked quickly. Defender Matt Tanzini scored the winning goal for Kansas City at 1:10. Maher finished the game with two goals. Djerisilo, Tanzini and Jamar Beasley each had one goal. Dino Delevski recorded two assists; Vlatko Andonovski had one. Jeff Davis led the team with five blocks. The Comets defense allowed only one goal each quarter.
Kansas City's December 5 game was the second consecutive overtime game at Monterrey Arena. On November 30 at the Arena, the Fury won 5-4 in overtime versus the Dallas Sidekicks with Genoni Martinez scoring the winning goal.
Sunday's game in Dallas played out differently. The Comets trailed 1-0 after one, 5-1 going into halftime and 6-1 at the end of the third quarter. Seven goals came in the fourth quarter with four from Dallas and three from Kansas City to make final score 10-4 in favor of Dallas. Five different Sidekick players recorded two points. Brian Soell (one goal, one assist) and Dino Delevski (two goals) finished with two points each for the Comets.
ODDS AND ENDS:
- With a goal and an assist in Dallas on Sunday, second-year forward Brian Soell ended a personal three-game scoring drought. Soell has now scored four goals and eight points on the season.
- Anthony Maher extended his scoring streak to four games with an assist against the Sidekicks. Maher has recorded five goals and seven points over the course of the streak.
