Kansas City Comets News Release

THE WEEK THAT WAS: Kansas City's offense exploded for 10 goals (the most in an MISL game this season) in a 10-6 win over the Monterrey Fury in front of 5,249 fans at Kemper Arena on Saturday night. The Comets built a 4-3 lead at halftime and cracked the game wide open by scoring the first three goals of the second half to make it 7-3 before Monterrey recorded a goal early in the fourth. The teams combined for seven goals in the final stanza, including Brian Soell's game-winner at 1:26.

Soell, who scored three goals all of last season as a rookie, finished the game with his first career hat trick. Reigning MISL SPALDING Scoring Champion Dino Delevski also registered three goals, and Miodrag Djerisilo notched a career-high four assists. Defender Jeff Davis scored a power play goal and blocked eight shots. DJ Horvath turned away 11 of 17 shots in goal for his first win as a Comet.

The game was broadcast on a tape delay basis on Sunday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. by Metro Sports, and will be shown again this Wednesday, October 22, at 1:00 p.m.

SOELL NABS WEEKLY AWARD: Comets forward Brian Soell, who scored three goals against Monterrey on Saturday, was named the MISL's Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.

Soell joined Dino Delevski (three goals) and Miodrag Djerisilo (four assists) in leading the Comets' offense to 10 goals, the most in an MISL game this season. Soell, 24, scored two of his goals on the power play, and notched all three of his tallies in the fourth quarter, including the game-winner at 1:26. The native of St. Louis becomes the first Comet to win weekly honors this season.

SAVIC RECORDS 200TH WIN: Comets Head Coach Zoran Savic won his 200th career regular season game on Saturday, becoming the second man in League history and the 10th in indoor soccer history to reach the milestone. Keith Tozer, with 429 wins, is the only man in League history with more regular season wins.

Savic, in his tenth year as Kansas City's coach, has gone 200-166 during the regular season, has posted a 23-22 playoff record, earned two championship rings (one as Coach, one as General Manager), and been named Coach of the Year twice.

ODDS AND ENDS: - Monterrey accrued 22 penalty minutes against the Comets on Saturday. In two games, Kansas City's opponents have been hit for a whopping 47 minutes in penalties. As a result, the Comets are tied for the League lead in power play chances (11) and are second with four power play goals.

- As noted above, with three goals on Saturday, second-year forward Brian Soell equaled his entire 2002-03 output. Miodrag Djerisilo is close to a similar feat: the 30-year old currently ranks third in the MISL with five assists, after assisting on seven goals last season.

- Jamar Beasley has scored a goal in each of his first two games with the Comets.

- Midfielder Ryan DiNunzio, the nephew of indoor greats Bobby and Mike DiNunzio, marked his Kansas City debut with an assist on Matt Tanzini's goal at 9:35 of the fourth. The score was Tanzini's first as a Comet.

- Thanks to his eight-block performance on Saturday, Jeff Davis now leads the MISL with 10 rejections.
