Comets Visit St. Charles Tonight to Battle Ambush

January 14, 2022 - Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) - Kansas City Comets News Release

The Kansas City Comets (6-0) return to Missouri for five of their next seven games, though the first will involve a visit to The Family Arena in St. Charles to battle the Ambush (3-5). The Comets enter the game as the only remaining unbeaten team in the MASL, and hold a 2-0 season-series lead against St. Louis this season.

This will be the second of three meetings at the home of the Ambush following Kansas City's Opening Night 6-4 win back on November 26. Leo Gibson and Ray Lee each bagged two goals in the win. For the Ambush, Mohamed Ndiaye (2G-1A) and JT Thomas (1G-2A) each had three points against the Comets. That win kicked off the Comets' streak.

Fast forward to January 14 and the Comets hold a nine-point lead in the Central Division despite having played less games than Dallas and St. Louis, with seven and eight games played, respectively.

Gibson remains the club leader, and tied for the league lead in points with 16 (9G-7A). John Sosa's 10 points (5G-5A) places him second on the team, with Lee, Lucas Sousa, and Kevin Ellis next, all with seven points

The MASL Defensive Player of the Month, Comets' goalkeeper Nicolau Neto, brings a 6-0 record, 4.33 GAA, and .760 SV% to the game. For St. Louis, three keepers have seen action in at least two games already this season with Josue Mazon emerging as the clear number-one keeper. He holds a record of 2-4, with a GAA of 7.21, and a .663 SV%.

Like the Comets, the Ambush have two players with double-digit production this season in Ndiaye (4G-9A) and Vadim Cojocov (8G-2A). Ado Jahic (6G-1) and Thomas (5G-2A) round out the top scorers for St. Louis.

After tonight's game, these teams will not meet again until Saturday March 26 and will close out the regular-season playing three out of the four final games for Kansas City.
