Comets Host St Louis for Game 2 of Season Series

KANSAS CITY - The Kansas City Comets welcome the St. Louis Ambush for their second home game of the season.
The Comets are in need of a win after losing their home-opener 10-8 to Milwaukee on Saturday, and Sunday's heartbreaking 6-5 overtime loss at St. Louis.
Aside from being close matches in terms of score, Kansas City's losses were certainly not due to a lack of talent.
As of the past weekend, forward Leo Gibson climbed to second place on the MASL scoring leaderboard and took first place in assists. Leo and defender Ignacio 'Nacho' Flores were named to the Week 3 MASL Team of the Week, and Anthony Grant and Brett Petricek were honorable mentions.
Last Sunday's game was Kansas City's third in four days, and the team's weariness from their big weekend showed in the second half. The Comets allowed 4 straight goals by the Ambush despite keeper Brett Petricek earning 28 saves and an .824 save percentage.
Midfielder Lucas Rodriguez managed to put Kansas City back on top 5-4 with five minutes to go in the fourth. However, St. Louis brought in a 6th attacker and managed to score in the final minute against the fatigued Comets.
In overtime, the Comets played as hard as ever, but were running on fumes. The team could not seem to finish despite multiple scoring opportunities.
In game two of the Kansas City-St. Louis series, the Comets will have both a week of rest and a blue-turfed home field advantage.
The Ambush will hope to keep their momentum from Sunday's win. Thus far, St. Louis has gone 1-1 on the road this season, their only loss coming from a goal in the final minute at Harrisburg.
St. Louis sports a balanced team, with a four-way tie for leading scorer between forward Zach Reget, midfielder Mario Marcos, forward Jerjer Gibson and defender Magui Souza.
Two of Reget's goals came during Sunday's bout, including the match-tying goal with under a minute to play. Gibson assisted Corey Adamson in overtime for the golden goal.
With the overall series record between the two teams being 17-3 in favor of Kansas City, the Ambush will always be hungry for a win against their midwestern rival.
Kansas City will miss Kiel Williams in the upcoming match, who received a red card last match. With a week of rest under their belt, the Comets will seek to snap their losing streak and earn their first home win.
