Rapid City Rush News Release

(Rapid City, SD) - On Sunday night, the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs scored four unanswered goals to take a 4-1 lead in game number two of the Northern Conference Finals. The Rush picked up a pair in the third period and had a furious final attack, but the flurry came up short as the Mudbugs held on for the 4-3 win. The best-of-7 series is now even at 1-1 as both teams head south for three games.

For the second straight game, the Rush were the first to get on the board, this time it was the first powerplay goal in three games. With a 5-on-3 advantage, Jamie VanderVeeken slid a rink-wide pass to Scott Wray, and the veteran sent home his team-leading 5th goal of the playoffs. The Mudbugs then continued their hot streak on the powerplay, scoring back to back goals just 31 seconds apart. The first came from Justin Aikins at 16:46 as he slapped home a rebound from the side of the net. It was then Simon Mangos' turn as he fired a slapshot through a screen and into the top-right corner for the 2-1 lead heading into the first intermission.

The second period was controlled by the Mudbugs, outshooting the Rush for the first time 10-7 and also collecting the lone two goals of the frame. David Rutherford gave the 'Bugs the first two-goal lead of the series at 9:24. Collecting the fourth unanswered goal and his first of the postseason was Jamie Milam at 15:03 to give Bossier-Shreveport a 4-1 lead heading into the third.

Les Reaney would begin the charge for the Rush off of a faceoff at 5:03 when he crashed into the netminder and the puck trickled home to cut the lead to two. Then with less than four minutes left, Wray slid a pass in front to Blaine Jarvis who backhanded a shot under Van Buskirk to make it a one-goal game. With the extra attacker on the ice, the Rush furiously looked for the equalizer, but the Mudbugs strong defense held on for the 4-3 win.

The series now heads to Bossier for game three through five.
