Austin Bruins News Release
While the Austin Bruins (16-6-0) have been unbeatable at home, their road woes continued Saturday night in a hard-fought 3-1 loss to the Brookings Blizzard (5-12-5) at the Larson Ice Center in Brookings. It was the Bruins fifth consecutive loss away from home.
The Blizzard struck first when Eric Brenk (Moorhead, MN) lifted a rebound over the pad of Austin s Nick Lehr (Roseville, MN). The goal ended a shutout streak for Lehr that lasted 243:13, dating back to the Bruins 3-1 victory over Kenai River on November 2nd. In the final minute of the period, Beau Michaud (Cloquet, MN) whistled a wrist shot over the glove of Lehr for his first goal of the season to give the Blizzard a 2-0 lead at the first break.
Austin Nelson (Hastings, MN) answered quickly in the second period for the Bruins with his third goal of the season, after taking a nice centering feed from Jay Dickman (Shoreview, MN) behind the Brookings net. It would be the only time the Bruins could solve Brookings goalie Drew Weigman (Arnold, MD), who made 37 saves in the game.
The Bruins had their chances in the third period, scratching and clawing to find the equalizer, but couldn t complete the comeback. Evan Hesse s (Monticello, MN) empty-net goal late in the game sealed the 3-1 win for the Blizzard and the series split. Lehr stopped 36 shots in his first loss of November, and first defeat in 13 career games against Brookings.
The Bruins have a busy Thanksgiving week, with three games away from home. The team travels to Onalaska, WI for a Wednesday night game against the Coulee Region Chill. Game time is set for 7pm on fasthockey.com and 1480AM KAUS. Then the Bruins travel to Bismarck for a weekend series with the Bobcats. Games Friday and Saturday night will both start at 7:15pm.
