Wichita Falls Wildcats News Release

FAIRBANKS, Alaska "" Will Vosejpka scored his team-leading eighth goal of the season and David Zevnik made 26 saves, but the Wichita Falls Wildcats (13-7-3) fell to the Fairbanks Ice Dogs on Friday, 3-1.

The Ice Dogs opened the scoring early in the first period after winning a faceoff in the offensive zone. Ethan Somonza picked up the puck down low and centered for Colton Wolter at the hashmarks, who tucked it past Zevnik at the 3:52 mark.

The deficit was doubled on a nearly identical play at 11:04 of the period, this time with Chandler Madry burying the puck from the low slot after Lonnie Clary's centering feed.

The Wildcats pulled within one late in the first period thanks to a power- play goal against the league's second-best penalty kill. Vosejpka won a battle for possession at the top of the right circle and put a quick shot on net, beating Aldridge to make it 1-1. The goal, which was unassisted, came at 18:24 of the period and was Vosejpka's fourth tally in the last five games.

Fairbanks controlled much of the second period, piling up a 14-7 edge in shots, and increased their lead late in the middle frame. With the Wildcats shorthanded, Doug Rose put home Madry's pass from behind the net to make it 3-1 Ice Dogs.

Wichita Falls created a handful of chances in the third period, most of which came on the man advantage, but the Fairbanks defense snuffed out any real pressure to seal the 3-1 win.

The Wildcats will conclude their four-game Alaskan road trip on Saturday when they look to earn a split with the Ice Dogs. Puck drop is scheduled for 10:30 p.m. CST, with video streaming available on FASTHockey.com.
