ADELANTO, CA â Want to rub elbows with members of the best Minor League farm organization in the country? On April 7th the Mavericks Booster Club will be hosting the annual Mavericks Welcome to Town Dinner at the Ramada Inn in Victorville.
The Welcome to Town Dinner is put on each year by the High Desert Mavericks Booster Club to introduce fans to the new team to the community and to welcome the players to the Victor Valley. Mavs fans will have the chance to have dinner and mingle with the players and coaching staff of the 2004 High Desert Mavericks.
The High Desert Mavericks are the Class A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers. The Brewers' farm system was just ranked the best minor league system in the country by Baseball America for 2004. Five of the top ten Brewers prospects have been played for the High Desert Mavericks during the past three years including J.J. Hardy, Brad Nelson, Dave Krynzel, Corey Hart, and Ben Hendrickson.
The Mavericks have a brand new coaching staff for the '04 season, led by former big league player and coach Mel Queen. Another new face on the coaching staff is former Mavs player and now new hitting coach, Stanton Cameron. Familiar faces to fans will be pitching coach John Curtis, trainer Matt Toth, and strength and conditioning coach Bryan Newman who will all be returning for a second season with the Mavericks.
The Welcome to Town Dinner will begin at 6 PM with no host cocktails and dinner to follow at 7 PM at the Ramada Inn in Victorville on April 7. Tickets to the Welcome to Town Dinner are $20 per person and are available by calling Karen Simmons at 760.244.5694 or make checks payable to the Mavericks Booster Club and mail to PO Box 3065, Victorville, Ca, 92393.
The Mavericks open the 2004 season on April 8 in Lancaster. The Mavericks home opener is on Monday, April 12 at 7:05 versus the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. Opening Night Fireworks and Clothing Drive on April 12 are sponsored by The Alpha Connection Youth and Family Services.
