San Jose Giants News Release
SAN JOSE, CA- The San Jose Giants and Comcast have joined forces to bring fans 14 LIVE television broadcasts during the 2009 season. The games can be viewed live on Comcast Hometown Network Digital Channel 104 throughout most Northern California regions. The schedule begins with Opening Night, Thursday, April 9th against the Stockton Ports at 7:00 PM.
"Comcast is a valued partner to the organization and we are extremely excited to work together to broadcast San Jose Giants games to 1.7 million homes throughout Northern California," said Juliana Paoli, San Jose Giants Vice President of Marketing and Public Affairs. "The additional coverage is going to be great exposure for our team as well as our current sponsors. We are thrilled that even more fans will get the opportunity to enjoy the fun and excitement of San Jose Giants Baseball, for what we hope will be the fourth consecutive record breaking season."
The broadcast slate includes 11 home games as well as three road games versus the Stockton Ports. After the initial live broadcast, all games will also be available for cable customers to view anytime through Comcast On Demand Channel 1. All San Jose Giants television broadcasts will feature the play-by- play of "The Voice of the Giants," Joe Ritzo and the color commentary of broadcast veteran Erik Alves. Ritzo has been calling San Jose Giants games since 2003 while Alves is in his 10th year as a Comcast sports announcer with previous broadcast experience in hockey, arena football, high school football, indoor soccer and Stockton Ports baseball.
"These California League baseball games are an integral ingredient for Comcast Hometown Network as we provide compelling, community-based regional programming," said Comcast Hometown Network's Andrew Johnson. "This is exactly why we created the network and the Comcast Hometown Sports programming block. Not only can Comcast viewers observe the major league stars of tomorrow, but they can watch and be a part of the teams from their local area."
Highlights of the schedule include six games against division rival Stockton as well as the July 4th game versus the Modesto Nuts. Popular promotion nights, including San Jose Water Night on May 22nd against Modesto and Sons of Sicily Italian Night on August 1st versus the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes will also be televised.
