New JetHawks Display Power Bats and Arms in Lancaster Debut

(LANCASTER, CA) - It is tough to gauge much from an exhibition game, but there was plenty to cheer new JetHawks manager Wes Clements from his team's Lancaster debut Tuesday night against Antelope Valley College. His offense pounded out at least one run in all seven innings and his pitching staff combined for 12 strikeouts as the JetHawks impressed their home fans with a 15-1 win over the Marauders. The game serves as the JetHawks' final tune-up before the start of the regular season Thursday night at High Desert.
The game opened auspiciously for Antelope Valley when Jacob Walsh led off with a single. However, JetHawks starter Jose Duran retired the next three batters in order before Lancaster for five runs in its first turn at the plate. The big blast was a two-run homer by left fielder Brian Pellegrini, who hit 21 home runs in 2008.
Jon Gaston had three extra-base hits for the JetHawks, including two triples, while driving in three runs. David Flores added four RBI on three hits while Nick Moresi hit a grand slam in the fifth inning.
The pitching was strong as well for the Lancaster staff. Starters Duran and David Duncan each got an inning of work to prepare for their first starts. Each of the JetHawks relievers saw action in the game as well.
The regular season starts Thursday when the JetHawks travel to Adelanto to take on the High Desert Mavericks. Left-hander Shane Wolf earns the honor of the Opening Day start for Lancaster. The first pitch will be at 7:05 PM. The radio broadcast on Magic 1340 AM will kick off with the JetHawks Pre-Game show at 6:50.
