Norfolk Tides News Release

Columbus' Jorge Padilla collected five hits and drove home four runs, powering the Clippers to an 11-5 win over the Tides in front of 8,006 fans at Harbor Park Saturday night.

Padilla singled four times and doubled in the contest, as he became the first Columbus batter to register five hits in a game this season. He was just one hit shy of the Clippers franchise record, previously set in 1997.

Norfolk's 11-hit attack was led by Freddie Bynum, who finished with three hits and a run batted in, while Eider Torres extended his hitting streak to 10 games with two hits in five at-bats.

Chris Roberson also continued his torrid stretch at the plate, as he finished 2-for-3 with a solo home run to collect his sixth straight multi-hit game. Roberson has hit safely in eight straight contests, and he's batted .613 (19-for-31) with a homer and eight RBI over that span.

Norfolk starter Chris Waters (3-6) suffered the loss, his first in five July outings. Waters yielded six runs - five earned - on eight hits in six innings, walking one and striking out seven.

Clippers starter Dennis Tankersley (3-3) earned the win, allowing two runs on five hits in five innings.

The loss snapped Norfolk's eight-game winning streak vs. Columbus, the top affiliate of the Washington Nationals.

Norfolk and Columbus will continue their four-game series on Sunday night, with first pitch from Harbor Park slated for 6:15. Lefty Craig Anderson (2-8, 7.54) will take the hill for the Tides against Clippers southpaw Mike O'Connor (4-2, 2.42).
