Columbus Re-Signs Right Wing Mike Blunden

Syracuse, NY (July 21, 2009) - The Syracuse Crunch announced today that the Columbus Blue Jackets have re-signed right wing Mike Blunden to a two-way, NHL-American Hockey League contract. As per club policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.

Blunden, 22, appeared in 39 games with the Crunch last season, tallying nine goals, 12 assists and 68 penalty minutes. He also skated in 37 games with Rockford last year, collecting three goals, seven assists and 42 penalty minutes.

Prior to coming to the Crunch, Blunden spent parts of four seasons with the Chicago Blackhawks organization from 2005-09. In 139 combined games with the Blackhawks' AHL affiliates in Norfolk and Rockford, Blunden collected 24 goals, 38 assists and 142 penalty minutes. He made his NHL debut on October 25, 2006 vs. Vancouver and has skated in 10 NHL games, all with Chicago, recording 10 penalty minutes.

Blunden spent four years with Erie (OHL) before turning pro, appearing in 236 games, notching 100 goals, 81 assists and 246 penalty minutes.

A native of Toronto, Ontario, Blunden was originally drafted by Chicago in the second round, 43rd overall, in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. He was acquired by Columbus from Chicago in exchange for Adam Pineault on January 10, 2009.
