Charleston Lowgators News Release
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (March 17) âThe Columbus Riverdragons defeated the North Charleston Lowgators 98-81 at the North Charleston Coliseum on Monday night. The Dragons won the season series 8-2.
Columbus jumped on the Lowgators in the first quarter with a 16-6 run and never trailed in the contest. The Dragons were up by as many as 35 at one point in the third period as they led 82-47.
Columbus coach Jeff Malone said, "It was a good game for us, we moved the ball well and made shots against a good team. Every year, you struggle with one team and you match up well with another team. For whatever reason, we have had success against North Charleston this year."
The Lowgators were out of sync for the majority of the evening and struggled defensively for the second consecutive game. With a victory, they would have clinched a playoff spot.
"Everybody is talking about the playoffs. So far, we haven't earned a spot in the post season. Things better change on Wednesday (against Greenville)," Lowgators coach Doug Marty said.
Tang Hamilton led the Dragons (22-26) with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Sean Peterson added 21 and Nate Green chipped in with 20. Nate Johnson, the league's leading scorer, dressed but did not play for unspecified reasons.
The Lowgators (24-24) received 23 points from Alpha Bangura and 22 from Tierre Brown.
North Charleston still needs one win to clinch the playoffs, while Columbus needs to win their final two games and receive some help from other NBDL teams.
