Columbus Destroyers Sign Linebacker and Defensive Lineman

COLUMBUS, OHIO - The defending National Conference champion Columbus Destroyers, presented by Germain, have signed linebacker Saul Patu and defensive lineman Michael Landry, Head Coach Doug Kay announced today. The Destroyers have also released defensive lineman Kelvin Kinney and linebacker Leroy Thompson; and waived fullback Brad Greetis.

Patu (6-3, 260, Oregon) has spent the past five Arena Football League seasons with the Colorado Crush. In 76 games played, the Seattle, Wash. native has tallied 145.5 tackles (113UT-63AT), 15.0 sacks totaling a loss of 98 yards, 10 pass breakups, nine forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.

A member of ArenaBowl XIX champion Crush, Patu played collegiately at the University of Oregon from 1997-2000 as a defensive lineman. He finished his collegiate career with 162 tackles, 52 for loss of yardage, 26.5 sacks, three fumble recoveries, one forced fumble and one interception.

Landry (6-3, 309, Southern) has played the last three years with the New Orleans VooDoo (2005, 2007) and the Kansas City Brigade (2006). In 43 games played, the nose tackle accumulated 45.5 tackles, seven tackles for loss, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. The Baton Rouge, La. native has spent time with Kansas City Chiefs (2002) and the San Francisco 49ers (2003-04).

The Destroyers return to action on Friday, March 7 when they travel to take on the Dallas Desperados. Kickoff from American Airlines Center is set for 8:30 p.m. (ET). Coverage of the game on the Destroyers Radio Network will begin at 8 p.m. (ET) with Steve Sefner and Rob Blackman.

The Destroyers will kick off their 2008 home schedule against division rival Cleveland Gladiators in the "Battle of the Buckeye State" presented by Columbus Worthington Air on Saturday, March 15. Kickoff at Nationwide Arena is slated for 7 p.m. (ET). The teams will be playing for the "Battle of the Buckeye State" Trophy. Before kickoff, the team will unveil the 2007 National Conference Championship banner. The first 10,000 fans will receive a 2008 Destroyers magnet schedule. During the post game autograph session, presented by Nationwide, fans will be able to win a $10 gift certificate in the Giant Eagle Ham Toss.
