AFL Sets Attendance Marks in Week 1

NEW YORK - Total attendance for the first week of the AFL's 2008 season was the highest ever for an eight-game Week 1 in AFL history. Average attendance was up 10 percent compared to last season's inaugural week and was the second-highest Week 1 figure in League history.

Total attendance for the eight games played during Week 1 was 111,829 with an average of 13,979. The total exceeded Week 1 of the 2003 season, which was 104,247 and the previous record for an eight-game inaugural week.

The Week 1 average of 13,979, which is the second-highest Week 1 average all-time, rose 10 percent vs. the 2007 season Week 1 average of 12,711 and 12.6 percent vs. the 2007 season-ending average of 12,415.

The Philadelphia Soul posted the highest attendance figure of Week 1 with 17,869 fans for their game against the Orlando Predators. The Cleveland Gladiators had the second-highest total with 17,391 fans attending their inaugural game against the New York Dragons.
