Columbus Crew SC News Release
COLUMBUS - Columbus Crew SC (2015 regular season: 15-11-8, 53 points) continues its Audi 2015 MLS Cup Playoffs run by facing the Montreal Impact (2015 regular season: 15-13-6, 51 points) in the decisive Second Leg of the Eastern Conference Semifinals at MAPFRE Stadium on Sunday, November 8 at 5:00 p.m. ET. The contest is set to be nationally televised on ESPN, with Adrian Healey, Taylor Twellman and Monica Gonzalez on the call. Locally, the match can be heard on the radio in English on CD102.5 FM with Dwight Burgess and Neil Sika. Juan Valladares is set to be behind the microphone locally in Spanish for La Mega 103.1 FM. This match, the first home postseason contest for Crew SC in 2015, is set to feature half-off all beer for supporters 21-and-over through the first half.
The Eastern Conference Semifinals are decided over a two-legged series with aggregate scoring, with Montreal holding a slight 2-1 advantage following the First Leg, held at Stade Saputo last Sunday, November 1. In the First Leg, Columbus Crew SC recorded a crucial away goal via a tally from Federico Higuain. With away goals as the first tiebreaker, should Columbus and Montreal be tied on aggregate following this match, Crew SC can advance to the Eastern Conference Championship with a 1-0 win or any win by two or more goals. If this match finishes 2-1 in favor of the Black & Gold, the series would go to extra time and potentially penalties.
This postseason is Crew SC's 13th all-time MLS Cup Playoffs run after the club qualified for the postseason for the second time in as many seasons under Sporting Director and Head Coach Gregg Berhalter. All-time, Crew SC is 15-19-4 in the postseason. The club will be looking to advance to the Eastern Conference Championship for the sixth time in its history. The club previously advanced to that round in 1997, 1998, 1999, 2002 and 2008.
Sunday's clash is the 17th all-time home postseason match in Columbus Crew SC club history. All-time, the Black & Gold are 9-6-1 in postseason matches played in Central Ohio, including a record of 6-4-1 at MAPFRE Stadium in those contests. Crew SC has scored at least two goals in each of its last five home MLS Cup Playoff matches, dating back to November 8, 2008 against Kansas City. Columbus and Montreal have never met in a postseason series before this year. In the regular season, the Black & Gold are 6-4-1 all-time against the Impact, including a 5-1-0 record in Central Ohio and a 1-3-1 record in Quebec.
