Columbus Crew SC Forward Kei Kamara Voted MLS Player of the Week

May 26, 2015 - Major League Soccer (MLS) News Release

NEW YORK (Tuesday, May 26, 2015) - Columbus Crew SC forward Kei Kamara was voted Major League Soccer Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for week 12 of the 2015 MLS season.

Two goals from Kamara - his third brace of the season and ninth of his MLS career - helped Crew SC to a 2-2 draw with the Chicago Fire at MAPFRE Stadium on Friday night. The two-goal effort pushed his season goal total to nine, moving him into the lead in the MLS Golden Boot standings. The Sierra Leone native has now scored more than half of Crew SC's total goals for the season.

Kamara got on the board early to give the home side a 1-0 lead in the eighth minute after a clinical team buildup play. Crew SC midfielder Justin Meram managed to work his way through multiple defenders to play a lovely through ball to Ethan Finlay inside the area. Finlay then squared the ball to Kamara who was there for the easy tap-in from the top of the six-yard box.

Kamara struck again in the second half off a corner kick to put Crew SC up 2-0 in the 55th minute. Argentinian Designated Player Federico Higuain sent a swerving kick into the box that Kevan George flicked on to the far post where an open Kamara directed a header past Chicago 'keeper Jon Busch to complete the brace.

Columbus Crew SC return to action this week on Wednesday night, when they host La Liga's Valencia CF in an exhibition match at 7:30 p.m. ET at MAPFRE Stadium. Crew SC then travel to the Citrus Bowl on Saturday to take on Orlando City SC in MLS play at 7:30 p.m. ET (MLS LIVE).

The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from NASR. The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media. More information and membership information can be found at http://www.soccerreporters.com/.
