Saturday's match is the first meeting of the 2016 Major League Soccer regular season between Columbus and Montreal. It is Crew SC's fifth regular-season match of the campaign and its fourth on the road. This contest concludes a three-match road swing that began on March 19 in Chicago and continued last weekend, April 2 at FC Dallas.

All-time, Crew SC is 6-4-1 against the Impact, with a record of 1-3-1 in Quebec. This match is slated to be Crew SC's first-ever contest at Olympic Stadium, as all of the club's prior tilts in Montreal were played at Saputo Stadium. Following this meeting, the Black & Gold will face Montreal two more times in 2016, with both matches occurring at MAPFRE Stadium (May 7 and June 18).

Last weekend against FC Dallas, Crew SC midfielder Justin Meram scored on a corner kick feed from Federico Higuain. The goal was his first of the 2016 season as well as the 20th of his MLS career. The former University of Michigan player tied Alejandro Moreno for 12th on the all-time Crew SC scoring list with the goal.

On Meram's goal, Higuain's assist was his first helper of the 2016 campaign. The Argentine has registered four consecutive seasons of at least seven assists dating back to 2012, when he first entered the League as a Designated Player with Columbus.
