The Crew earned a 1-0 win in the first leg of the Concacaf Champions Cup Round of 16 against Houston Dynamo FC at Shell Energy Stadium in Houston, Texas.
With tonight's result, Columbus now own a 4-0-1 record in Round of 16 matches of the competition.
This matchup marks the second time that the Black & Gold have faced off against MLS opposition in Concacaf Champions Cup play. The win now earns the Crew's first win against MLS opposition in their competition history.
Following tonight's win, the Crew have now won in four straight Concacaf Champions Cup Round of 16 matches. In the previous three victories, the Black & Gold recorded victories in the 2003 (3-0, vs. Arabe Unido, March 23, 2003) & 2021 (0-4, at Real Esteli, Apr. 8, 2021; 1-0, vs. Real Esteli, Apr. 15, 2021) editions of the competition.
With tonight's 1-0 win, the Crew earned their 11th overall clean sheet in their Concacaf Champions Cup history.
Alex Matan scored a game-winning right-footed goal in the 96th minute.
The Crew have now scored in 17 consecutive matches across all competitions, registering 35 goals.
Forward Marino Hinestroza made his official debut with the Black & Gold, recording his first start for the Club.
Tonight, Hinestroza recorded one shot, 13 accurate passes (87 percent passing accuracy), 25 touches, and two ground duels won.
Goalkeeper Patrick Schulte earned the shutout, recording his first clean sheet in his first Concacaf Champions Cup match.
In tonight's match, Schulte recorded four saves and 16 accurate passes.
