Columbus Cottonmouths News Release
COLUMBUS, Ga. - The Columbus Cottonmouths of the SPHL signed Defenseman Ryan Aikia and Right Wing, Craig Stahl today. Both players return to the Snake Pit for their fourth professional season as Snakes.
The upcoming season will mark Ryan Aikia's third year serving as player/assistant coach and alternate captain for the Cottonmouths. Aikia also played for the Cottonmouths of the CHL in the 1999-2000 season, when he had his career-best season with 57 points. Aikia marked the boards with 50 points in the 2005-2006 season, 44 assists and 6 goals. Originally from Sudbury, Ontario, Ryan now calls Phenix City, Alabama home.
Craig Stahl enters his third consecutive year as Cottonmouths Captain, only the third in Columbus Hockey History. Stahl also had a previous stint with the Cottonmouths of the CHL in the 2000-2001 season. Stahl tallied 11 goals and 18 assists in the 2005-2006 season for a total of 29 points on the board. "I am looking forward to Craig breaking out offensively this season," says Jerome Bechard, Head Coach and General Manager. Craig, a Cranbrook, BC native, has planted roots in the Chattahoochee Valley as he now resides in Columbus, Georgia.
Bechard, on the signing of the Snakes Alums, said, "These two are the first pieces of the puzzle for the 2006-2007 season. They are the foundation of the team, providing leadership on and off the ice. Ryan and Craig have made homes here in the Chattahoochee Valley community and it says a lot about how great the people and the community are. It is also important for the Cottonmouths to have "hometown" guys on the team. We are here for the people and the community; after all, this is "Our Town, Our Team, Our Columbus Cottonmouths."
