Columbus Blue Jackets Re-Sign Goaltender Karl Goehring

Syracuse, NY (August 26, 2003) – The Syracuse Crunch announced today that the Columbus Blue Jackets have re-signed goaltender Karl Goehring.

Goehring, 24, appeared in 49 games with Syracuse last season, posting an 18-21-4 record with a 2.67 goals against average and four shutouts. During the 2001-02 season he played in 15 games with the Crunch and posted a 5-6-3 record with a 2.49 goals-against average. He also saw action in 23 games with Dayton (ECHL), posting an 11-9-3 record with a 2.24 goals-against average. Goehring was originally signed by the Blue Jackets as a free agent on May 7, 2001.

The Apple Valley, Minnesota native played four years at the University of North Dakota and compiled an 80-20-13 record with a 2.23 goals-against average and 15 shutouts in 118 games. He was a two-time All-American and three-time All-Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) selection with the Fighting Sioux and holds the league record for career shutouts (14 in WCHA games). He was also the WCHA Rookie of the Year in 1997-98 after becoming the first UND goaltender since Ed Belfour (1986-87) to post 20 wins in a season. He helped the Fighting Sioux capture the 2000 NCAA championship, one WCHA playoff championship (2000) and three WCHA regular season titles (1998, 1999, 2001).
