Columbus Assigns Nikita Filatov to Crunch

Syracuse, NY (February 5, 2009) - The Syracuse Crunch announced today that the Columbus Blue Jackets have assigned center Nikita Filatov to the Crunch.

Filatov, 18, has appeared in 23 games with the Crunch this season, posting seven goals, 10 assists and 10 penalty minutes. He has also skated in eight games with Columbus this year, tallying four goals.

Filatov was reassigned by Columbus from the Crunch to the Russian World Junior National Team on December 19 to play in the IIHF World Under-20 Championships. He appeared in seven games and finished fourth in the tournament in scoring with eight goals and three assists, while captaining Team Russia to a bronze medal finish.

A native of Moscow, Russia, Filatov was drafted by Columbus in the first round, sixth overall, in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.

The Crunch's next game is Friday, February 6 as they travel to Cleveland to take on the Lake Erie Monsters. The Crunch return home on Friday, February 13 to battle Grand Rapids at the War Memorial at Oncenter at 7:30 p.m.
