San Angelo Colts News Release
San Angelo, TX- San Angelo entered the series with the Pensacola Pelicans knowing they needed to take the series from Pensacola, needing to win 2 of the 3 to keep their fading playoff hopes alive.
After a 3-game sweep at the hands of the Pelicans, completed tonight with a 5-1 victory, the Colts know that their playoff hopes are growing slimmer with each loss. Jodie Kennedy would be the starter tonight for the Colts, and again he'd find himself in good shape after 4 innings, with a tie ballgame 1-1. It was San Angelo who'd strike 1st, after getting them to 2nd and 3rd with no one out, they'd manufacture a run to take the early lead against Jeff Norris. The Pelicans would strike back in the 3rd, with a RBI hit from Larry Bethea. The game would stay tied until the 5th, when Pensacola would ride the power of a Rafael Alvarez opposite field 2-run homer to take a 3-1 lead.
2 more would score in the 7th, thanks again to an RBI hit by Alvarez and an infield single by Mike Rodriguez to take a 5-1 lead that Norris would not relinquish as he'd go the distance to stay perfect this season, advancing to 6-0 with the win. San Angelo's hitters were held primarily in check, as only Matt Sancez would have a strong night going 2-3 with a pair of doubles. The Pelicans 1st 3 hitters were incredible, each having a multi-hit night with Alvarez's 3-4 evening highlighting the show. The Colts finish their season with Pensacola, having lost 10 straight to the Pels and have now reached 5 games with this current slide.
