San Angelo Colts News Release
Edinburg, Texas--- The San Angelo Colts (14-6) pushed their win streak to three games on Wednesday night beating the Edinburg Roadrunners (8-12), with a score of 8-4. After dropping game one of the series, the Colts bounced back to take three out of four from Edinburg.
For the second night in a row it was another quick strike in the first inning as Bradley Goldsmith reached base on a hit by pitch. Jason Diaz lined a ball just inside the third base bag scoring Goldsmith as Diaz cruised into second with a double. With two outs in the inning, Jason Landreth jumped on top of a fastball sending it into the Colts bullpen and giving San Angelo a 3-0 advantage.
The Colts got another run in the fourth as Landreth homered for the second time of the night, this time a no doubter to left center, pushing San Angelo's lead to four. It was Jason's third homerun in two games.
Colts starter Ezequiel Astacio was perfect through four innings. It wasn't until the fifth inning that the Roadrunners got on the board. Edinburg would cut the lead in half with three singles and two runs in the frame.
The score remained 4-2 until the top of the seventh. With one out in the inning, Colts backstop Hank Lanto doubled to right centerfield. Butch Ballez followed with a single, placing runners on the corners. Goldsmith added a single scoring Lanto, extending the Colts lead to three. Diaz then walked filling the bases. Edinburg starter Aaron Guerra committed a wild pitch bringing in Ballez while San Angelo took a 6-2 lead. After Gaines flew out, the Roadrunners made a pitching change bringing in right hander Brian Heaston to face Bryan Frichter. With the bags full, Frichter lined a shot to the left field line scoring two more Colts as San Angelo took their biggest lead of the contest, 8-2.
Ezequiel Astacio (3-0) continued to be effective as he gathered his third win of the year, allowing two earned runs and six strike outs, accumulated over six innings of work. The loss was handed to Edinburg starter Aaron Guerra (0-1) who went 6 and 1/3 innings, giving up seven hits and seven earned runs.
San Angelo's offense amassed ten hits while plating eight runs. Jason Landreth had three hits, including two round trippers (4,5) and three RBI's. Other Colts with multiple hits were Bradley Goldsmith and Butch Ballez, each collecting two singles. Bryan Frichter singled while driving in two.
San Angelo will be heading for Laredo tomorrow for a four game series with the Broncos. These two teams have squared off once already this year. The four game set ended in a split. First pitch is set for 7:30 at Veterans Stadium.
