Barrie Colts News Release
Barrie, ON- The Barrie Colts have officially announced today that they have signed their first round pick in the 2009 OHL Priority Selection Ryan Strome.
The Colts drafted Strome with the eighth overall selection in this year's draft and were very pleased with what they saw at the Colts rookie camp.
"Well with Ryan we feel we have a very skilled player who makes others better," said Barrie Colts Head Coach Marty Williamson. "We really didn't feel that he would still be around with the eighth pick and he was just too good to pass up. He was definitely one of the strongest players at our rookie camp and we feel that he can be a future star and a good-scoring center."
Stome is coming off a great season with the Toronto Marlies, in which he scored 41 goals and had 63 assists for 104 points in 76 games. The 5'11" center will be eligible to suit up with the Colts this season, who are suddenly fairly deep at the center-ice position.
