San Angelo Colts News Release

Harlingen, Texas --- Third baseman Landon Camp hit a three-run homer in the first inning to propel the Colts to a 7-2 victory over the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings Sunday night at Harlingen Field.

It was Camp's team-best 12th home run of the year, and it scored centerfielder J.J. Sherrill and second baseman Mark Ramos. Camp is now tied for second in the United League in homers.

First baseman Daryl Jones hit his seventh home run of the season in the third inning. It was a two-out, solo shot into left field, and it gave the Colts a 4-0 lead.

San Angelo pulled away in the fifth inning, scoring three more runs against WhiteWings starter Clint Bowker. Jones, shortstop Danny Hernandez and designated hitter Cory Patton all scored.

Bowker (1-2) gave up all seven Colts' runs on eight hits in 4 2/3 innings for his second loss of the year.

Meanwhile, San Angelo starter Demetrius Banks (4-5) was magnificent. He pitched five shutout innings and recorded four strikeouts for the win. It was his first start as a Colt after getting traded from the McAllen Thunder.

The WhiteWings scored two runs against the Colts' bullpen, but it was far from enough to overcome San Angelo's early offensive surge.

The win improves the Colts to 38-38, while the loss drops the WhiteWings to 43-32. San Angelo has Monday off, and then begins a four-game series against the Edinburg Roadrunners Tuesday night at Edinburg Stadium. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m., and the game can be heard live on KKSA beginning at 6:50 p.m.

San Angelo returns home on August 18 to play the Abilene Prairie Dogs. It will be the Vegas Fan Fly Away, sponsored by Midland International Airport. One fan will win two tickets to Las Vegas, courtesy of Midland International Airport. Gates open at 6:05 p.m., and first pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.

The Colts are a member of United League Baseball who are in their 13th season. Tickets are on sale now, and available at the Colts' front office at Foster Field.
