San Angelo Colts News Release
Harlingen, Texas --- The Colts scored three runs in two innings to propel themselves to a 4-1 victory over the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings Sunday night at Harlingen Field.
Tied at one in the seventh, first baseman Daryl Jones scored the go-ahead run for San Angelo. He drew a two-out walk, advanced to second on left fielder Jamar Walton's base hit, and then scored on shortstop Ryan Hutson's RBI single. Hutson went 2-for-4 on the night.
WhiteWings starter Henry Garcia (1-2) surrendered the go-ahead run, and therefore took his second consecutive loss. Garcia allowed two runs on five hits in 6 2/3 innings.
Centerfielder Ronnie Gaines added a pair of insurance runs in the eighth, driving in himself and right fielder J.J. Sherrill with a two-run homer into left field. It was Gaines's fifth home run of the season, and the third Colts' homer of the series.
Starter Logan Williamson began the bottom of the eighth inning, but was pulled before recording an out. Reliever Russell Johns finished the inning without allowing a run. Williamson (5-1) got the win, allowing just one run on seven hits in seven-plus innings.
Closer Erik Draxton faced the minimum number of batters in the ninth to earn his league-best 12th save.
The win improves San Angelo to 22-21, while the loss drops Rio Grande Valley to 24-19. The Colts have Monday off, but they begin a four-game series against the Edinburg Roadrunners Tuesday evening at Edinburg Stadium. The game can be heard live on KKSA beginning at 6:50 p.m.
The Colts' next home game is Saturday, July 14 when they host the McAllen Thunder at 7:05 p.m. It will be Glow-In-The-Dark Baseball Night, sponsored by AEP Texas. The first 1,000 fans through the gates will get a glow-in-the-dark Colts' baseball, courtesy of AEP Texas.
The Colts are a member of United League Baseball who are in their 13th season. Tickets are on sale now, and available at the Colts' front office at Foster Field.
