Colts pitching shuts down Dillas 5-2

SAN ANGELO, TX - The Amarillo Dillas will have to wait one more night to clinch the United League Baseball regular-season title as the Colts pitchers stiffled the Dillas 5-2 on Saturday night at Foster Field in front of 2,803 fans.

Dillas starter Turner Brasher (2-2) got the loss, despite allowing only five runs off six hits in five-and-a-third innings. Colts starter Bryan Heaston (3-4) got the win, going six-and-a-third innings, allowing only one earned run off six hits in the effort. San Angelo closer Chace Vacek got his fourth save, despite allowing a ninth inning hit.

The Colts got on the board first in the second inning as Alex Fernandez led off with a single and scored on a Josh Collazo homerun for a 2-0 lead.

Amarillo struck back in the fourth as Julio Martinez singled, went to third on a Stephen Douglas single and scored on a error during a Rob Recuenco at-bat for a 2-1 deficit.

San Angelo struck back in the fourth as Collazo and Landon Camp led off with hit-by-pitches while Collazo moved to third on a double play. Stephen Yoo and Ronnie Gaines responded with a pair of RBI singles for a three-run advantage. Camp hit a solo homerun to lead off the sixth for a 5-1 lead.

The Dillas got a run back in the seventh as Jermel Lomack singled, stole second and scored on an Adam De La Garza RBI double for a 5-2 score.

Colts reliever Brett Bukvich, Caleb Rogers and Vacek stopped Amarillo from making the comeback, as they fell to San Angelo 5-2.

With the loss, the Dillas fall to 52-37 while the Colts improve to 44-45. Sunday, Amarillo will take on San Angelo for the second game of a three-game set at 7:05pm with the Aqua One Pre-Game Show set to begin at 6:50pm on AudioSportsOnline via www.myamarillodillas.com. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout.
