San Angelo Colts News Release
San Angelo, Texas --- The Colts took an early lead and never looked back, defeating the Abilene Prairie Dogs, 10-2, Saturday night at Foster Field.
Helped by a pair of Abilene errors, San Angelo scored four runs in the first inning. Centerfielder Ronnie Gaines, designated hitter J.J. Sherrill, first baseman Daryl Jones and right fielder Jamar Walton all scored. Only one of the runs was earned against Abilene starter Erik Gonsalves.
The Prairie Dogs cut their deficit in half in the third, but the Colts took control with three more runs in the bottom of the inning.
Left fielder Cory Patton hit a leadoff homer and second baseman Mark Ramos hit a two-RBI double that scored Walton and third baseman Landon Camp.
Gonsalves (1-1) lasted just three innings and took the loss. He gave up seven runs, four earned, on six hits.
Relief pitching did little to slow the Colts down, though. San Angelo tacked on three more runs through the next two innings to take a commanding 10-2 lead.
Colts' starter Demetrius Banks (5-5) earned his second win since joining the team. He gave up two runs on six hits and struck out eight batters in 6 2/3 innings. Reliever Russell Johns pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings to complete the Colts' victory.
The win improves San Angelo to 41-40, while the loss drops Abilene to 31-48. This series continues Sunday at Foster Field.
It will be another Grand Slam Sunday, sponsored by Fiddlestrings. One lucky fan will go home with a 47" HDTV, courtesy of Fiddlestrings. Gates open at 5:05 p.m., and first pitch is set for 6:05 p.m.
