San Angelo Colts News Release

San Angelo, Texas --- An eighth-inning RBI single by second baseman Jon Dziomba propelled the San Angelo Colts to an 8-7 victory against the Edinburg Roadrunners Monday night at Foster Field.

Dziomba's base hit scored shortstop Jordan Marks from second base. Marks reached first on an error by the right fielder Tim Battle. The error allowed catcher Bubby Williams to come home from third and score the tying run.

Williams got the inning started with a leadoff double.

The Colts took a 1-0 lead in the second, courtesy of a leadoff home run by left fielder Braden Embry. It was Embry's fourth homer of the season.

Edinburg tied the game in the third, though, and then surged ahead in the fourth. Catcher Dan Coury led the inning off with a double, and shortstop Michael Haynes drew a two-out walk after the Colts committed an error on a routine pop up in foul territory. Second baseman Jordan Etier followed with a three-run homer into left field. It was his first home run of the season, and it gave the Roadrunners a 4-1 lead.

The Roadrunners led 6-2 going into the bottom of the fifth, but San Angelo went on to outscore Edinburg 6-1 through the final four innings.

Centerfielder Joseph Hicks crushed a two-run homer in the fifth, and Embry hit an RBI double to pull the Colts within one at 6-5 in the bottom of the fifth. For Hicks, it was his fourth home run of the season, and his first since coming to San Angelo.

The Colts completed the comeback with their two-run eighth. Aces closer Alex Schmarzo (2-3) surrendered the go-ahead, and eventual winning run, and therefore took the loss.

Colts' reliever Scott Hartling (1-1) earned the win by virtue of pitching a scoreless top of the eighth. Closer Cephas Howard then pitched a scoreless ninth to pick up his league-best eighth save of the season.

The win improves the Colts to 36-34, while the loss drops Edinburg to 35-36. This series concludes tomorrow with a $2 Tuesday, sponsored by Budweiser.

All general admission tickets, longneck beers, sodas, hot dogs, popcorn, and peanuts are only $2, courtesy of Budweiser. After the game, fans 21 and over can stick around for a Happy Hour in the Coors Light Beer Corral.
