August 5, 2013 - United League Baseball (ULB)
Fort Worth Cats News Release
The first place Cats had a five game winning streak heading into Monday night's matchup, but a six-run eigth inning led to a 10-4 loss to the WhiteWings at LaGrave Field.
The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings (33-38) had a streak of their own as they took the field Monday evening, as the Wings had lost their previous eight games. They jumped on the Cats early, scoring a first inning run on a Hector Garcia single.
The early 1-0 lead for the WhiteWings snapped 25 straight innings of scoreless innings thrown by Cats' pitching, the highest among any United League team this 2013 season.
The Fort Worth Cats (43-37) took the 2-1 advantage on a leadoff home run by Cody Bishop. Bishop ended the night with a line of two-for-five as he also recorded a double. David Bergin later scored on a one-out sacrifice fly by Daniel Meeley.
David Bergin extended the Fort Worth lead with a solo shot of his own in the 5th inning. Bergin remains the United League leader in blasts with 15 home runs.
Cats' starter Will Krout had a solid six innings of work in his third start in a Fort Worth uniform, surrendering two runs on five hits.
The loss was given to reliever Hayden Shirley, his first loss of the year, as he surrendered two runs following four base on balls.
The eighth inning was the Cats' downfall, as back-to-back errors followed by back-to-back walks led to six WhiteWings runners crossing the plate.
Fort Worth went through four different relievers, spreading their bullpen thin for tomorrow's series finale matchup with Rio Grande Valley.
The Cats sit idle in the United League standings as second-place San Angelo won their game. The magic number to clinch the division remains at three for Fort Worth.
Tickets to tomorrow's game can be purchased online at FWCats.com or by phone at (817) 332-CATS.
