Colts Beat WhiteWings in Walk-Off Fashion

San Angelo Colts News Release

San Angelo, Texas --- A passed ball in the bottom of the ninth allowed right fielder Cody Hudson to score from third and give the San Angelo Colts a thrilling, 5-4 walk-off win against the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings Wednesday night at Foster Field.

With two outs and nobody on base, Hudson hit a ground ball to WhiteWings' shortstop Roberto Ramirez. Ramirez threw the ball past the first baseman Cody Collins, allowing Hudson to reach first and advance to second. Collins then threw to second, but the ball bounced into left field, allowing Hudson to reach third base.

A passed ball charged to catcher Jake Mendiola during shortstop Jordan Marks's at-bat then allowed Hudson to score the winning run.

WhiteWings' reliever Nelson Curry (3-2) gave up the winning run, and therefore took the loss. Colts' reliever Cephas Howard (4-2) earned the win by virtue of pitching the top of the ninth.

The Colts got out to an early 2-0 lead, but the game seesawed back-and-forth in the middle and late innings.

Rio Grande Valley tied the game at two in the top of the fifth, but then first baseman Steve Rinaudo hit a solo homer in the bottom of the inning to reclaim the lead for San Angelo.

The WhiteWings took their only lead of the night at 4-3 with a two-run eighth. Designated hitter Paul Montalbano hit an RBI double down the right field line, and then scored on an error. The double plated second baseman Thomas Shull.

San Angelo tied the game at four when Rinaudo hit an inside-the-park home run into deep centerfield in the bottom of the eighth. It was the first inside-the-park homer of the season at Foster Field, and the second home run of the night for Rinaudo. He is the fourth Colts' player to homer twice in a game this year.

Despite great performances, starters Demetrius Banks and J.R. Bromberg were forced to take no decisions due to all of the late scoring.

The win improves San Angelo to 31-32, while the loss drops Rio Grande Valley to 32-33. This series continues with a doubleheader Thursday night. It will be a Thirsty Thursday, sponsored by Miller Lite and presented by 101.9 The Fire.
