San Angelo Colts News Release
San Angelo, Texas --- The San Angelo Colts never trailed Wednesday night, as they defeated the McAllen Thunder 7-3 in game one of their four-game series at Foster Field.
San Angelo scored five runs in the first three innings, and then scored two more runs late in the ballgame. Starter Derek Christensen (1-1) had his best outing of the year, allowing three runs, one earned, on four hits in six innings for the win.
In the first, third baseman Jordan Marks and second baseman Jon Dziomba both scored. Marks scored from first on Dziomba's RBI triple. First baseman Steve Rinaudo drove in Dziomba with an RBI ground out to third.
Marks gave the Colts a 3-0 lead in the second with an RBI single that scored shortstop Danny Hernandez. Hernandez reached base on a walk earlier in the inning.
Right fielder Dan Evatt blew the game open for San Angelo with a two-run homer in the third. It was his first home run of the season, and it scored designated hitter Kyle Nichols.
McAllen starter Brett Miller (1-1) settled down after the third inning, but it was too late. He gave up six runs on nine hits in 6 2/3 innings for his first loss of the year.
The Thunder rallied for three runs in the fifth inning, courtesy of a throwing error, a sacrifice fly and an RBI double. Colts' pitching held McAllen scoreless the rest of the game, though.
San Angelo tacked on a pair of insurance runs late. Nichols hit an RBI single in the seventh, and Hernandez had a sacrifice fly in the eighth.
It was the Colts' fourth consecutive win, and it improved their record to 14-11. Meanwhile, the loss dropped McAllen to 10-15. This series continues with a doubleheader Thursday night at Foster Field. The Colts and Thunder will play two seven-inning games beginning at 6:05 p.m.
It will also be a $1 Beer Night, sponsored by Miller Lite. All fans 21 and over can enjoy $1 draughts and $2 bottles, courtesy of Miller Lite. Gates open at 5:05 p.m.
