San Angelo Colts News Release
San Angelo, Texas --- Before the season began, San Angelo Colts' Manager Doc Edwards promised a ball club with a potent offense.
On Wednesday evening, the Colts delivered. San Angelo clubbed the McAllen Thunder, 16-6, for an Opening Night victory at Foster Field.
The Colts scored in all but two innings, and hit two home runs. Tied at one going into the bottom of the second inning, Colts' right fielder J.J. Sherrill hit a two-RBI single that proved to be go-ahead runs.
Two batters later, shortstop Landon Camp crushed a two-run homer to left field to make it 6-1 Colts.
Ahead 7-2 in the bottom of the fourth, the Colts poured on the runs once again. With one out and two men on, third baseman Jason Crosland crushed a three-run homer. Catcher Josh Banda later had a sacrifice fly that scored left fielder Jamar Walton.
Second baseman Adam De La Garza drove in three more runs in the sixth with a bases clearing double.
On the mound, Brian Henschel (1-0) tossed five innings and earned the win. McAllen starter Sean Keeler (0-1) was knocked out after just two innings and suffered the loss.
The Colts and Thunder continue their season-opening, four-game series Thursday at 7:05 p.m. at Foster Field. Lefty Logan Williamson will take the hill for the Colts opposite Thunder righty Kurt Houk. It will be the first $1 Beer Night, sponsored by Miller Lite.
The San Angelo Colts are a member of United League Baseball who are in their 13th season. Tickets are on sale now, and available at the Colts' front office at Foster Field.
