Benji Gil Added To 2012 Fort Worth Cats Roster

Fort Worth, TX---The 2012 Fort Worth Cats' season begins tonight at historic LaGrave Field, and the newest player on the roster will be starting at shortstop. First pitch is at 7:05 and will be followed by a fireworks display presented by Dr Pepper.

Ex-TCU Horned Frog shortstop Shelby Ford is out for the opening 8-game home stand with a hamstring injury, and taking his roster spot on the active list tonight versus the Rio Grand Valley WhiteWings is the MLB veteran and ex-Texas Ranger Benji Gil.

Benji Gil was born in Tijuana, Mexico and made his MLB debut on April 5, 1993 for the Texas Rangers. Gil won the World Series in 2002 as a utility infielder for the Anaheim Angels. Gil's career Major League numbers include a .237 batting average, 171 RBIs, and 32 home runs.

After a spring training at LaGrave Field filled with a wide pool of baseball talent, Manager Curtis Wilkerson and Pitching Coach Steve Maddock have finalized their 2012 roster selections. The coaching staff also includes Art Senato and former Texas Rangers pitcher Jeff Russell. The official 2012 Fort Worth Cats roster is as follows:
