DENVER - In a game where the Mammoth uniforms looked sharp in the new Blackout Night threads, the NLL-best Toronto Rock proved to be too much for Colorado. The Rock scored six goals in the second quarter and six in the fourth to defeat the Mammoth, 17-9.
Colorado got scores from three defensemen - Tyler Codron, Joey Cupido and Creighton Reid - but it wasn't enough on a night when little went right. Codron's tally was his first since 2009.
"It did feel good to score that goal - it's been a while!" said Codron. "But still, a little frustrating with the loss and how we played..."
Despite winning 25 of 31 face-offs, Colorado was minus-20 in loose balls in the game.
"Toronto was getting all sorts of loose balls in our end," said defenseman Creighton Reid, who scored his sixth goal of the season in the contest. "I don't know how many second possessions we gave them but those are back-breakers."
The Mammoth is back at home next Sunday at 6pm MT as it takes on the Minnesota Swarm in a St. Patrick's Day celebration. Tickets are on sale now.
