COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Larry Walker was elected into the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame on Tuesday, joining Jim Thome as the only two Colorado Springs (Sky Sox) alums enshrined in the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York. Thome was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2018. Walker also becomes the first-ever Colorado Rockies player to be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.
Walker's lone cameo with the Sky Sox happened in an August 1996 homestand in a rehab assignment at Sky Sox Stadium, playing in only three games, batting .364 (4-for-11), with 2 HR, and 8 RBI. On the August 10th game against the Salt Lake Buzz, Walker went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI. On August 12th against Salt Lake, Walker went 1-for-4 with a HR and 4 RBI (the homer was not a grand slam homer), homering off Buzz pitcher Brett Roberts. Then on August 13th against the Phoenix Firebirds, Walker was 1-for-3 with a HR and 2 RBI, homering off Firebirds pitcher Dan Carlson.
Thome played for the Sky Sox in 53 regular season games over the 1991 and 1992 seasons, batting .291 with 4 HR and 42 RBI. Thome then batted .370 with 3 HR and 10 RBI in the 1992 postseason, when the Sky Sox won the 1992 Pacific Coast League Championship.
