Colorado Mammoth Pre-Season Heats Up In Arizona
December 9, 2008 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Colorado Mammoth News Release
Denver - The Colorado Mammoth will continue its preparation for the 2009 National Lacrosse League season with a practice schedule and youth clinic this weekend in Arizona.
Dozens of kids from the Glendale Youth Lacrosse program are expected to attend a clinic from 10 am to noon at the Arizona Sports Complex in Glendale, AZ.
"The Mammoth's Sticks 4 Schools program includes a curriculum that teaches lacrosse to kids of any skill level," Colorado Mammoth general manager Steve Govett said. "We will adapt some of that curriculum for the kids in Arizona and then provide some hands-on coaching from our players.
"This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for some of these kids to meet, and be coached by professional players," Govett said. "We all started playing somewhere and we hope these players will develop into the future of the game."
"We were very fortunate that during the time the Arizona Sting played in Glendale, they were very generous with their time and support of lacrosse in Arizona. The Colorado Mammoth, with former Sting Coach Bob McMahon, can really help our young players with their stick skills and motivation to reach the next level - whether that be playing in high school, college of even the pros," said Glendale Lacrosse League director Bill Casey.
"This part of the country is seeing real growth in youth lacrosse and I've been glad to be part of it during my time in Arizona and now as coach of the Colorado Mammoth," said Mammoth coach Bob McMahon.
McMahon had coached the NLL's now defunct Arizona Sting prior to moving to Colorado.
The Colorado Mammoth will practice in Glendale this weekend in advance of an exhibition game at Pepsi Center against the San Jose Stealth December 20.
The Mammoth's regular season begins January 9 on the road against the Portland LumberJax.
