Fort Collins, CO-The Colorado Ice will be hosting a celebratory "Day of Champions" In recognition of two local high school football teams, The Dayspring Christian Academy Eagles and Windsor Wizards, during the 2012 home opener Sunday, March 4th at 3 p.m.
The Dayspring Christian Academy Eagles football team was the Colorado High School Class A 8-Man football state champions this past fall. The Eagles, under head coach Mick Holmes, finished the season with a perfect 13-0 undefeated record. Maxpreps website recognized the Eagles on the national level as the 33rd ranked 8-Man team in the nation. This was the second championship in 4 years at the Class A 8-Man State level.
The Windsor Wizards won their first state football title since 1993 when they won the Class 3A State Football Championship this fall, third in school history. Head Coach, Chris Jones, led his team to a near perfect record of 13-1. The Wizards only loss came from a team that they later avenged in the state championship game. The Wizard's team has a few members that will continue their football careers at the collegiate level. These colleges include Ohio State, Adams State College, and Colorado Mesa University.
Both teams' head coaches will be participants in the coin toss ceremony. While the players and all coaches will be honored during the half time of the game when they take their victory walk on the field.
Both teams have partnered with the Colorado Ice for ticket sales at this event. The Eagles fans can purchase a discounted ticket while the Wizards fans can purchase a fundraising ticket that will benefit the program. Just mention one of these teams when calling to receive the special rate.
