Colorado Eagles News Release
LOVELAND, CO. - The Colorado Eagles and Worcester Railers combined for 182 penalty minutes as Colorado cruised to a 5-1 victory, now moving the Eagles to a perfect 5-0 record to start the season. Joe Cannata was sensational in net for the Eagles, stopping 29 of Worcester's 30 shots for his third victory of the year.
The Eagles notched the game's first goal for the fifth straight game, as forward Jesse Mychan skated to the side of the net before feeding the puck in the low-slot to rookie forward Joey Ratelle who would slam it home. The goal not only came with the Eagles shorthanded, but also served as Ratelle's first goal as a professional and gave Colorado the 1-0 advantage at the 12:59 mark of the first period.
Just 1:32 later, defenseman Jake Marto would slice through slot, collecting a beautiful feed from forward Michael Joly and beating Railers goalie Mitch Gilam to extend the Eagles lead to 2-0.
Moving into the second period, Colorado forward Drayson Bowman would skate his way between the circles before snapping a wrister that would light the lamp and put the Eagles up by a count of 3-0 with only 2:15 gone in the middle frame.
Enjoying a three-goal edge after 40 minutes of action, the Railers finally sliced into Colorado's lead when defenseman Patrick McNally beat Cannata with a wrister from between the circles to bring the score to 3-1 at the 2:49 mark of the third period.
The Eagles would jump back on top by three scores on a bizarre goal that saw the puck bounce between the legs of Gilam on a dump-in by forward Brady Shaw from center ice to put Colorado up 4-1 with 14:36 left to play in regulation.
With Colorado again facing a shorthanded situation, forward J.C. Beaudin would create a 2-on-0 breakaway that would be capped off with Joly feeding the puck into the net to stretch the Eagles advantage to 5-1 with 4:40 left in the third period.
The deficit would begin to spin tempers out of control, as a fracas between the benches saw multiple fights unfold and multiple game misconducts doled out by the officials. After the penalties were sorted, Colorado finished out the remaining 2:19 and preserved the 5-1 victory. Five different Eagles registered multi-point performances, as nine Eagles skaters notched at least one point in the contest.
Colorado concludes its homestand when the Eagles welcome in the Rapid City Rush on Friday, October 27th at the Budweiser Events Center at 7:05pm. Tickets are available at Colorado Eagles.com.
Season tickets for the 2017-18 season are on-sale now and can be reserved with a $100 deposit per seat by calling the Eagles ticket office at 970-686-SHOT (7468).
