DENVER, Colo. - The Arena Football League's Colorado Crush have come to terms with former 2006 AFL Rookie of the Year wide-receiver, Ben Nelson. Nelson will be entering his third year in the AFL and totaled the second highest receiving yardage total by a rookie in AFL history in just 11 games with the San Jose SaberCats.

Last year Nelson led the SaberCats to their third Arena Bowl victory in New Orleans. He followed his 2006 AFL Rookie of the Year season with a 101-catch campaign in 2007, totaling 1,257 yards and 25 touchdowns.

Nelson, a 6-foot-3, 191 pound receiver was a consensus Division II All-American at St. Cloud State in Minnesota. Originally signed as an undrafted free agent with the Minnesota Vikings in 2003 and was on the Vikings active roster for three games in 2004. Later that year he was allocated to Cologne of NFL Europe for their 2004 season. Born and raised in Coon Rapids Minnesota, Nelson graduated with academic honors and was on a President's Scholarship at St. Cloud State. Ended his career as SCSU's all-time leader in TD receptions (43) and points (266)...Also ranked 2nd all-time in receptions and 3rd in receiving yards in school history.

Colorado Crush head coach, Mike Daily had this to day about Nelson and the big shoes he hopes Nelson can fill after the free-agency departure of wide-receiver Damien Harrell.

"He is a great young receiver who has already proven his worth in this league, winning the rookie of the year two years ago," Daily said. "He is an electrifying player and we are very happy with Ben's interest in coming to play with our organization. This is just an indication of the type of athlete that we are committed to bring to Colorado."

AFL Statistics(with San Jose):

2006 - 94 receptions, 1,405 yards and 26 TDs.

2007 - 101 receptions, 1,257 yards and 25 TDs.
