November 6, 2010 - United Football League (UFL 1)
Hartford Colonials News Release

The Hartford Colonials have signed safety Quintin Demps and kicker Sam Swank. The team also released safeties Ryan Glasper and Marshall McDuffie, and kicker Taylor Mehlhaff.

Demps (5-11, 206) was a fourth-round draft pick out of Texas-El Paso by Philadelphia in 2008 and spent the last two seasons with the Eagles. He had 32 combined tackles, one interception and one sack in 25 NFL regular season games. Demps, 25, also appeared in four playoff games, making one start.

As a rookie in 2008, Demps was the primary kick return specialist for the Eagles. He averaged 25.3 yards a return that season, including a 100-yard touchdown against the Ravens.

Swank, a kicker and punter at Wake Forest, signed a contract with the Eagles following the 2009 NFL Draft. He subsequently signed deals with the Bengals and Giants but was released by both teams.

Swank was a three-time semifinalist for the Lou Groza Award, given annually to the top placekicker in college. He converted 71 of 93 field goals attempts (76.3 percent) and holds the Wake Forest record for field goals. He made 17 of 22 attempts from 30-39 yards, 19 of 30 from 40-49 yards, and 9 of 13 from 50-plus yards. His career long is 53 yards twice. Swank also was the Demon Deacons punter, averaging 40.1 yards.

In his first season with the Colonials, Mehlhaff converted 10 of 13 field goal attempts and 13 of 14 PATS. His final kick was a 22-yard field goal as time expired that gave the Colonials a 27-26 win over Sacramento on Oct. 30. Earlier in the game, Mehlhaff missed from 22 and 34 yards. In a 24-21 overtime loss to Las Vegas the previous week, he missed from 38 yards midway through OT.

Glasper registered 14 total tackles (nine solo) and one interception. McDuffie had 10 solo tackles, two forced fumbles and a blocked punt.

The Colonials, coming off a bye week, resume practice Sunday, Nov. 7, at Sage Park in Berlin from 12:30-2:30 pm. The team will practice Monday and Tuesday from 11:30 am-1:30 pm both days, and Wednesday from 10-11 am in preparation for a road game against Florida on Thursday, Nov. 11, at 7 pm.

The Colonials play their final regular season game Nov. 20 against Las Vegas at Rentschler Field. The kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 pm. Tickets can be purchased by calling 860-913-2300 or on-line at www.hartfordcolonials.com.
