All Teams Alive in UFL Playoff Race

November 6, 2010 - United Football League (UFL 1) News Release

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - JACKSONVILLE, FL - Saturday, November 6, 2010 - The Florida Tuskers' 31-14 victory over the Omaha Nighthawks in Week 8 means all five United Football League teams remain alive in the race for the 2010 Championship Game.

The Las Vegas Locos have already qualified and can now clinch the number one seed with an unassailable 6-1 record with a Saturday night home win over the Sacramento Mountain Lions (8pm PDT kickoff / live on Versus 11pm EDT). They will be joined by one of four teams still in contention - but which one?

"Here's the good news," said Nighthawks head coach JEFF JAGODZINSKI after the defeat to Florida. "Things didn't go our way, but the positive is we're still in a two-game playoff with these guys to go to the championship game.

"We'll meet Florida again, get them back to Omaha and we control our own destiny."

Despite having dropped from a 3-1 lead in the standings to 3-3 behind the Tuskers, who also have a 3-3 record but hold a tiebreaker head to head lead, the Nighthawks still have the most straightforward scenario in front of them. Win in Sacramento next week and gain revenge at home over Florida and the city of Omaha will have a home team playing in the Championship Game.

"We've still got two games left and one of the best things about Omaha is the great fans at Rosenblatt Stadium and I expect a good turn out and believe they can help us get into the Championship Game," added Jagodzinski. "There's no doubt this is now playoff football. We have a two-game playoff now. I want our fans to know we'll get things corrected."

But let's not forget about the other contenders.

The Florida Tuskers have claimed second place in the standings at 3-3 in a bid to force a repeat of last season's Championship Game match up against Las Vegas. The Tuskers now also have destiny in their own hands. A win at home to the Hartford Colonials (2-4) next week would set up a potential mouthwatering winner takes all clash in Omaha against the Nighthawks in Week 10.

For the Hartford Colonials at 2-4 things are a little more complicated and the first order of business will be to win in Orlando in Week 9 to force a tie in the standings with the Florida Tuskers. That coupled with a Week 10 home win over Las Vegas would mean Chris Palmer's team can take their chances in a tiebreaker at 4-4, provided the Nighthawks are not in the equation having beaten the Colonials twice already to win the head to head.

The Sacramento Mountain Lions (2-4) know that they have no alternative bit to win out, starting with Saturday night's visit to the Las Vegas Locos, and hosting Omaha before watching events unfold during their Week 10 bye.

Defeat will serve as an eliminator, while two wins and a 4-4 finish could force a tiebreaker provided other results go their way.

If, at the end of the season, two or more clubs finish with the best won-lost-tied percentage, the following steps will be taken to determine which two teams will play for the UFL Championship:

1. Head to head among tied teams 2. Strength of victory over all opponents at the conclusion of the season 3. Most points scored at the conclusion of the season 4. Points differential at the conclusion of the season 5. Fewest points conceded at the conclusion of the season 6. Best record on the road in all games
